Name: Black Sands Weyr
Location: South-Eastern Continent
General Plot Information: The Weyr has been in existence for almost 200 Turns, since the end of the last Pass, and the Dragons are showing signs of restlessness when they sleep, hinting that perhaps the threat of Thread will soon be returning. Black Sands had three Queens at one point, but attacks by arrow-carrying bandits, who feel the Weyr is not needed, have reduced this number to a single Ebony Queen who has only recently completed her Weyrling Training. This has made this poor young soul the Leader of a Weyr in strife, and her rider its Weyrwoman. Armed parties from the Weyr have been hunting the jungles for the Queenslayers, who have also slain the Weyrleader and his Ruby King just recently, leaving Black Sands without a strong Leadership base upon which to fall, and the Weyrwoman, Auralina, is struggling to keep her Weyr safe and on its feet, without help from the rest....
Physical Description: Black Sands is located in a beautiful, lush area of the Eastern edge of the Southern Continent. A ridge of mountains makes the perfect home for this Weyr, and trees and tropical flowers are to be found everywhere, although not in the abundance that would normally be, due to the need to keep greenery in check with the threat of Thread's encroachment.
The Weyr itself is in an extinct Supervolcano of rich gold-veined black stone, almost fifteen miles wide, and more than 15 thousand feet high, with a scooped upper ridge where dragons can land and relax in the sunshine. The Star Stones and Eye Stone are prominent on the edge where they are traditionally placed, and a couch is nearby for the WatchDragon.
To the North is the Ground Entrance, a small, and thin trail through the mountain itself that is heavily monitered with the recent bandit attacks outside the Weyr Proper. The Western Wall houses the Candidate Barracks, Weyrling Barracks, and the Hatching Cavern, a massive cave with soft black sands heated by an underground vein of magma. To the South, one can find a large lake where dragons can bathe, some of which edges into the enclosures for the wherries and herdbeasts upon which the dragons feed. Of course, the rest of the Weyr's structure is dotted with caves and crevices in which dragons of all sizes and hues live with their Bonded ones, and, in the case of females, their Mates.
