Name: Kayami
Age: 17
Gender: male
Birthingday: 8.25
Lifestyle Choice: straight
Rank: Candidate
Job: hunter/traveling merchant
Appearance: Kayami is quite a bit different from the girl he grew up with. His hair is dark brown, naturally wavy, and he likes to keep it just touching his ears. Any longer and it'll get in the way when he's out hunting. He is average height, maybe a little taller than normal, at 5-10, and muscular. Broad shoulders, tight abs, the works. But he doesn't even realize it; being fit was always part of being a child in a merchant caravan, and then a hunter. He carries his quiver on his back, and he almost always has his hunting knife on his hip. He does have some minor scarring on his palms from learning to carve his own arrows.
Personality: Cheerful. He likes to make sure others keep on smiling, and he tends to try to bring it with a song even if he is completely tone-deaf. He is especially good with kids, making them laugh at least. He just likes to make others happy, however he can. And if that's by making a bad pun, he'll certainly give it a try. But he's much better at being a listener, a shoulder to cry on. Oh, but if you make Maki cry, he will come after you. He thinks of her as his sister, and so he will defend her as if he was her biological brother.
When he's hunting, he turns into a different person. Maki calls it his "work mode," when he starts tracking and searching for his prey. While Maki is a better shot than he is, he can still kill a herdbeast with one arrow if he's careful enough. He's very serious about his hunting, and he trains daily to improve his accuracy. He makes his own arrows, as well as Maki's. Oh, yeah, she's not good at that either.
He was also said to be a good leader, but all he's had to lead were the hunting parties for the caravan. While he is a good leader, he doesn't like to boast about it, and he often changes the subject when his leadership skills are brought up. He doesn't really like talking about it at all.
History: Maki and Kayami were born on the same day, but they're not twins. Not even related. Their families were part of a merchant caravan, Maki's mother hailing from Igen Hold, her father from Ista. The pair were inseparable from the time they could toddle, and they were basically brother and sister, without actually being related.
At seven, they started collecting things they found along the roads, seeing what they could sell and what never would. This is how Maki found a pair of flitter eggs, one for her and one for Kayami. Her egg hatched into a Ruby flit, a little girl that Maki named Rosetta. Kayami's Hatched into a male Dusk, named Perchant.
They were ten when the hunters of the group decided it was time for them to learn to hunt. Each of them was given a bow and knife, and they each got a different teacher. It was the first time they had done things by themselves, rather than together, but they found out that it was fun to share stories at the end of each lesson, before they went to bed each day. They would hunt for their meat, the wild heardbeasts and wherries, and other creatures that roamed the forests and grasslands. They were both good, but Maki was a better shot, though Kayami was better at preparing the meat and sneaking around to surprise their prey.
He was thirteen when Maki came back to the caravan late one night, after her hunting party had already returned, with a young puppy in her arms. Though Kayami was just as adept when working with the little one, he still felt like it was something that was pushing him and Maki apart. It was something that they attempted to share, but it was obvious that the little canine, which Maki named Rin, only really liked Maki. Even though Rin would obey the rest of the caravan, it was obvious who she liked better. And that realization made Kayami realize that they were in fact different. Before, their differences had always balanced each other out. Her accuracy, his stealth. But this wasn't like that.
They had heard rumors of the massacre that happened at Black Sands Weyr when they stopped at Black Sands Hold to barter with some crops they'd gotten from a cothold on the other side of White Plains. Maki and Kayami had just finished selling their dried meat, the ones that had turned out good enough to sell anyway. They'd happened upon the Harper of the Black Sands Hold, who told them the news. They shared it with the caravan, and as a group they determined that they should go offer their help to the Weyr, whatever help they may be. Maki and Kayami were told to go ahead of the others, to let the Weyr know that the caravan was on its way.

IC: What Colors Do You Wish to Impress? I'm thinking that a Brown would be good for me, but I wouldn't mind Bronze or a Dusk...
IC: Why? Well, I'm a good worker, and... People say that I'm... A good leader...
OOC: What Colors Do You Wish Them to Impress? Anything is okay, as long as it's male.
OOC: Why? I can't see him on a female dragon.
Are You Okay With Mauling? yep
If So, to What Degree? Same as Maki. Scarring okay, loss of limb or paralysis not okay.
