Tillion glanced toward the outside at the thunder clap before he followed Shayden, staining close by and looking around them with his usual curiosity. "What else do we need to do?"

"For now we just need to be sure that they don't stress themselves and potentially cause damage or injury, to themselves or us." The explanation came as he was examining one of the mares to be sure she was okay. She was HEAVILY pregnant, and looked similar to the mare he'd been riding earlier.

Tillion smiled softly and reached out to stroke her neck, the fur soft and warm under his fingers. "What a beauty," he breathed, soft and awed. "Storms bring babies..." He added as an after thought, glancing up to Shayden, do you think tonight will bring her time?"

"I actually hope not," Shayden said, even as he felt under her to be sure her teats were full like they should be. "She'd be a couple weeks early if she dropped now. Not that that's a bad thing, it's just difficult to make sure a foal is healthy when the dam is uneasy because of a storm. When it's pleasant out, and they aren't charged up and nervous, it's much easier." He glanced at Tillion as he stroked the mare's neck, surprised she was letting him. She was usually a bit snippish. That, more than anything, made him decide that Tillion was what his step father referred to as 'good people.' Animals had a feel for it, much more than humans did, and Shayden tended to trust their instincts, sometimes more than his own.

Unaware of "good people" thoughts, Tillion was listening thoughtfully to Shayden as he hummed soothingly to her. "How do you usually keep them calm through bad weather?"

"By just being near them, talking to them. Basically distracting them from it as much as we can, like you would a small child who fears them," he explained, exiting the Paint's stall and moving into the stall of the bay next to her, who was not AS pregnant, but still noticeably so. "As herd animals, they have that mentality that in a group, they're safe. As individuals, they're not. Kind of like some people, actually. Well, ALL people really, although some show it a lot less than others." The last two sentences were stated thoughtfully as he stroked the mare's neck, then checked her over as he had Aida's mother. She craned her neck around and butted him playfully in the back, and he chuckled and rubbed her nose, giving her the attention she was asking for.

Shayden's voice was soothing even as he explained the process, rambling perhaps a little and Tillion smiled softly to himself, reaching over to give her some affection as well. Another crack of thunder rumbled over them and he hummed with the energy of it. "Will you stay the night here then? Keeping them safe?" He watched Shayden as he waited for him to answer, the dimmer light inside the stables casting shadows over his face.

"We will stay until the storm subsides, yes. Then we'll figure out what needs to be done, if anything, and go from there." He shrugged and idly continued rubbing the mare's neck, even as she pushed her muzzle into Tillion's hand, whickering softly in pleasure.

When the mare whickered in pleasure Tillion's face just melted into something soft and warm and private which he shared with Shayden by meeting his gaze. "That sounds fine," he breathed, perfectly content to wait it out here.

The Beasthealer nodded calmly and padded to the next stall. Over the candlemarks, that was how they worked, just going from stall to stall, making sure the runners remained calm. Shayden also watched over the herdbeasts for the herds that fed dragon and human alike, and he showed Tillion how to take care of them, though he warned him about Demon, the big, black herdbull, who more than lived up to his name.

Tillion was a quiet, calm presence near Shayden as he assisted wherever he could. Occasionally he would ask a question, usually about Shayden, sometimes about the work they were doing. He did keep a clear distance away from Demon though, happy to watch as Shayden worked with that one. "What keeps you at the Weyr Shayden?" He asked curiously. "A partner?"

"Hope." The reply was simple, and it was also slightly muffled, as he was, at that moment, underneath a largely pregnant cow who looked like she was likely going to have twins she was so huge. He then appeared fully and patted the placid creature gently, before moving out of her stall. "Hope keeps me here. The hope that just MAYBE, I might have my father's blood after all." He shrugged, then continued on once more, hearing the rain letting up. "Storm's about over it sounds like."
Even as he said it, there was an eye searing flash, and he heard wood pop and smelled cloth burning. "Shards! The tarps!" He raced for where the sound had come from, and reached it quickly, using a watering bucket to drench the wood around it to keep it from catching. The tarp was beyond saving, and he cursed softly. "Glad it's about done, or else that would be a huge problem..."

Tillion was thoughtful as he listened to him, nodding his understanding before the flash hit and he ducked on reflex. He popped right back up though, running over with Shayden to assist with getting the tarp taken care up and getting somewhat drenched in the process. "Good thing," he breathed in agreement, chuckling a little as he helped to move it out of the way.

Once it was cleared, Shayden looked out, then they got a new tarp in place, and he seated himself on a bale of hay, ruffling his dark hair with a towel to get it dried. Said towel had been dropped on him by one of the others' Fire-lizards, the little beasts still hanging around above them to avoid the storm and make sure that their people didn't need them. He examined the little beasts idly, his gaze going over them. He'd like one of them for himself, but he'd never been able to get his hands on an egg. So, for the moment, he didn't have one Bonded to him.

Tillion followed his gaze up to the little firelizard as he dried off as well, pulling his wet clothes away from his body with a wrinkled nose. "Amazing isn't it? That dragons came from those."
