Name: Vara
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Height: 5'3"
Lifestyle Choice: Straight
Rank:
Candidate
Appearance: Vara stood out in Sun Ride Hold for many reasons, the most apparent being her mismatched eyes. When she first opened them they were of the palest blue, but as she began to grow they gradually changed colors... into two separate directions. The left is now a green so pale and piercing it reminds one of the most vibrant trees found anywhere in nature. The right... well, the right one is so deep a pink as to appear red in certain lights, and has put terror into many a child's eye. The look in them, however, is rarely anything but kind and understanding, softened by the warm smile formed by perfect bow-shaped lips and showcasing white, straight teeth. Her hair also set her apart from the other members of the Hold. It was of the darkest red, some sections seeming almost black in color, and fading to more of a burgundy when the light struck it. It fell to her waist in large, loose curls with long layers framing her face, and long bangs swept over her right eye, doing a fair job of hiding the intense color. Her face was beautiful in an exotic way, slender with high cheekbones and a sharp, angular nose. Her eyebrows matched the color of her hair and held a high arch, thinning at the end. She had full lips, the upper bowing just right in the middle, adding softness to a face which otherwise might appear too soft.
Her body was short but softly rounded in all the right places. She had a flat, slightly toned stomach, strong but slender arms and shoulders, a long, elegant neck, ending in a full, milky white bosom. Her bottom was more rounded than one would expect from such a small woman, but firm from all the hiking and riding she did. She didn't have much of a torso, but gained the majority of what height she had from her finely toned legs.
Personality: She is a very sweet, compassionate woman who has had to get a tougher skin as she's grown older. Her looks are both beautiful and slightly frightening to some, and have garnered attention which was not always wanted. Because of this she often buries the softer side of her when first meeting someone as protection, but once she gets to know someone she will show them a warmth rarely seen from another. Often when she is first approached, especially by men, she will try to ignore them, and if that doesn't work will straight-up tell them to go away. She has developed a stiff backbone and when she feels threatened will refuse to budge. She is very straight-forward, unafraid to tell people exactly who is she is and where she came from, always preferring honesty to any falsehood. She is kind-hearted though, and tries her best not to hurt others with her words. Instead she usually refrains from speaking her opinions about others unless specifically asked for them. She is very loyal to those who have managed to gain her trust, but once broken puts up a wall that is nearly impenetrable. She remains courteous, but cold, never again sharing her true self with them. Because of the nature of other people's comments to her, she has a lot of reservations about her looks, but she loves the person she has become and believes herself to be fair, kind, strong, independent, and open to all new things. Loyal to her family above all others, leaving them to move to the Weyr was the hardest thing she has ever done.
History:
Vara was born to a modest couple who made their living working at a local vineyard. She was their middle child of three, having an elder brother named Darion and a younger sister named Evanora. Her brother had gotten their mother's coloring, pale blonde hair and bewitching green eyes that sparkled with the mischief that lived in his soul. Eva, on the other hand, was nearly identical to their father, deep raven colored hair and gray/blue eyes that stared into your soul. No one knew where Vara's coloring came from. As a baby they assumed her hair and eyes would follow her father's, but as she grew and changed, she bewildered her family. The neighbors around her began to grow weary of Vara, unsure what was causing the unusual coloring. The more superstitious of the them even dared to say there was something supernatural- or perhaps, even, evil- at work. Because of this, the vibrant, excessively friendly child began to be spurned by adults, and torn away from her childhood friends. Confused by this, she turned to her family, who consoled her and began to teach her how to steel herself against those reactions. They were not her fault, they told her, but came only from ignorance and fear of the unknown. As she entered her teenage years she began to form the firm rules she lived by in regards to others. She gained a few close friends, and they stood up for her fiercely if ever someone said a wrong word about her in their hearing, for they knew how deeply caring she truly was.
Not that she needed them to. Her warm, loving family had shaped her into a strong, independent woman who very firmly put those people in their place. The most memorable of those moments was when she had turned down a boy's confession- on the account that she barely knew him- and he began spreading rumors among the other boys of their age that her red eye glowed with the forces of evil and would burn your soul if you dared to look at her for too long. She walked slowly up to their group, swept her hair aside and looked each boy in the eye for a long while, then gave them the warmest smile and said politely, "I hope that you would base the level of my goodness upon my actions towards you and not by the look you perceive in my eyes. I wish you all nothing but long lives and complete happiness, but I ask that you not spread this rumor any further. If any still chooses to believe, please send them to me and I shall put it to rest." With this she gave another humble smile, nodded her head and walked away.
After this incident the murmurs died down a little, but not completely. She got in the habit of walking past those she didn't know, and often telling those that did approach her to simply leave her to herself. She kept her close friends and helped her family where she could, but she always felt as if she didn't truly belong here. She spent her days helping her parents at the vineyard, or caring for her sister, or even helping the elderly in the neighborhood. Her nights, however, she spent reading of the Riders and their Dragons, and planning places she would love to visit if only given the chance. Her love and loyalty to her family have kept her precisely where she was, but if ever a Dragon Rider comes to Search her, she knows deep in her heart she wouldn't hesitate to leave.
Candidate Application
IC: What Colors Do You Wish to Impress? Ruby, Dawn, Dusk, Silverlight
IC: With my personality I believe I would get along much better with a female dragon than a male. I find myself to be more trusting around them. Every girl dreams of having a Queen dragon, but I understand those are rare and would not feel disappointed in any lower ranked dragon.
OOC: What Colors Do You Wish Them to Impress? Gold, Ebony, Ruby, Dawn, Dusk, Silverlight
OOC: Although she is too humble to admit she wants a Queen herself, I believe she has every quality a QueenRider could ask for- She is kind, compassionate, fair, and used to drawing firm lines when she has to. She stands up for herself and others and isn't afraid of tough decisions. However, Queens are rare creatures and we would both understand that is a dream that may not happen. Any other female dragon would be very acceptable as I don't believe she would be able to completely trust a male dragon, and prefer no Sunset or Green as I don't believe their personalities are very compatible.
Are You Okay With Mauling?
Yes.
If So, to What Degree?
I would be okay with broken bones, and deep scratches but nothing permanently damaging. If there are scars to remain, preferably something on a smaller degree, no large mutilating scars or injuries which would cause limping or lack of movement in any long-lasting way.
Are You Alright With Them Being Left Standing?
Yes. If there are no dragons which would truly fit her, and there are so many of a certain color that still need to Impress, I would rather she be Left Standing until a more suitable match became available.
FEMALE CHARS ONLY:
Do You Desire a Queen?
Yes
Why do You Deserve One?
I have had QueenRiders before and know what kind of responsibility falls on them, and am more than confident that I can fulfill those responsibilities. Aside from that, I believe Vara has all of the capabilities, and can really learn and grow from a Queen herself.
Are You Okay Not Impressing One?
Absolutely. As much as I love playing them, all of the other shades are equally as important and I love the surprise of finding out which rank I end up Impressing with. Also, it is a lot of fun putting personalities to colors I've never worked with before, which are much more common among the lower ranks.
